ABOUT

For almost 20 years I’ve had the opportunity to collaborate closely with a myriad of architecture and engineering firms to share in photographs what makes their tireless and ever-evolving work SPECIAL.  I work in major cities like Los Angeles and San Francisco photographing iconic and visually stunning structures/spaces designed by some of the worlds most recognized firms. My work is rooted in the tactility of medium and large format photography which established my early career. I began my art and professional photographic ambitions shooting street photographs and environmental portraiture on medium format film working mostly at dawn/sunset/dusk or night.

Utilizing modern digital cameras and aerial drones has greatly increased my ability to shoot in busy cities and bustling spaces bridging the gap between traditional, meticulous architectural photography and a svelt photojournalistic approach. Melding light and shadow, I set out to bring to visual fruition architecture’s achievements, strength, and sense of place in an ever changing built world.  I’m very passionate about delivering the highest quality images and spend a great deal of time curating and preparing final images personally.  I am opposed to using automatic or gimmicky methods and instead use mostly in-camera techniques coupled with decisively timed photographic captures in a variety of natural lighting scenarios to yield striking images of the spaces. Capturing the whimsy and interaction of people within these spaces is always of great interest to show the fascinating union of humans and the scale of the spaces I photograph.   My studio is based in Santa Barbara, Ca where I live with my wife and daughter.
